Mr. C never expected to be filing for disability benefits at age 51, but a back injury and an additional colon reconstruction forced him to stop working as an engineer not too long after opening his own company. Although he was denied benefits at his first ALJ hearing, we successfully appealed his case to the Appeals Council where his case was remanded to a different ALJ. His claim was approved at the 2nd hearing and he was awarded 23 months of backpay, equaling approximately $35,000 in past due benefits, as well as an ongoing monthly benefit.
